What is Whiskey?

Let us first settle the age old debate is it “Whisky” or “Whiskey”. You can all settle down because this is one of the rare situations where both teams are right. Both spellings are correct depending on what region we refer to. It is typically spelled as “Whiskey” in US and Ireland call. Whereas in Scotland, Canada, Japan it is referred to as Whisky.

    Scotch

    Scotch. Usually split as Blended and single malt scotch. Scotch is Pale straw/gold to rich, nutty amber in color. Scotch should be aged in oak casks for a minimum of 3 years. They are usually made from barley or other grains

    Bourbon

    American - Bourbon and Rye. Fun fact there is No additives allowed in bourbon and it must be charred in new oak barrels for a minimum of 2 years to be called Bourbon.

    Blended

    Scotch. Usually split as Blended and single malt scotch. Scotch is Pale straw/gold to rich, nutty amber in color. Scotch should be aged in oak casks for a minimum of 3 years. They are usually made from barley or other grains

    Malted

    Pale straw to light amber in color. 40% ABV or more. Must be aged minimum 3 years in wood casks. Usually made from barley (malted / unmalted) can be made using other grains too.

    Single Malt

    Scotch. Usually split as Blended and single malt scotch. Scotch is Pale straw/gold to rich, nutty amber in color. Scotch should be aged in oak casks for a minimum of 3 years. They are usually made from barley or other grains
